Sticky Fingers Sweet Treats

The Delivery: Multiple boxes of cookies, brownies, and whoopie pies from DC’s Sticky Fingers Bakery
Staff Pick: Pumpkin whoopie pies

The DL: Seriously, Sticky Fingers? Pumpkin whoopie pies? You know a way to these vegan magazine editors’ hearts. In fact, anything pumpkin-flavored will win us over. While Editorial Assistant Hilary Pollack kicked off squash season with “Pumpkin Five Ways,” we’re all thankful that there are infinite ways to incorporate pumpkin into every part of mealtime. Whether it’s Sunset magazine’s vegan pumpkin curry, pumpkin pizza from Los Angeles, or a batch of classic Pumpkin Spice Cookies, we can’t get enough of the ubiquitous big orange squash.

Strawberry-Lemonade Cookie

The Delivery: Strawberry-Lemonade cookie from the Alternative Baking Company, Inc.
Staff Pick: The cookie!

The DL: On days like today, we generally sip hot tea and feast on any sort of stew, curry, or soup, as do 74 percent of people who voted on our rainy day staple survey. Despite the constant rain and chilly breeze, the flavors of this cookie remind us of long-lost summer sunshine. Since fall has officially arrived, we’re digging all of the pumpkin-flavored foods pretty much everywhere—pumpkin ale, pie, coffee, doughnuts, everything! Check out Pumpkin Five Ways on VegNews.com to really get filled with the pumpkin spirit. Enjoy.

Pumpkin, Caramels, and Vegan Pregnancy

The Date: Friday, September 30, 2011
The Delivery: Three pumpkin pies from Wholly Wholesome, Vegan Pregnancy Survival Guide by Sayward Rebhal, and Allison’s Gourmet new Salted Confections Gift Set with salted caramels and peanut brittle
Staff Pick: Wholly Wholesome's Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pies

The DL: Tis the season to start adding the best thing ever—pumpkin—to everything we eat, starting with these pies. For all the downsides associated with losing the sunshine and bounty of fresh produce available in the summer come fall, pumpkin truly is a worthy exchange. That, and the snuggly fall sweaters, like those found in Editorial Assistant Hilary Pollack’s recent piece on compassionate fashion. If you’re one of those crazy people who doesn’t enjoy a sipping a hot pumpkin soy latte with a crisp breeze blowing the fallen leaves into a whirlwind of color, consider a vacation instead—VegNews is heading to balmy Mexico in the nick of time, this November. There are only a few spots left, so get your ticket before it’s too late. Happy Friday!
