Dry Shampoo and a Diet Book

The Delivery: Non-veg book The Ultimate Volumetrics Diet by Barbara Rolls and Sevi Maranta dry shampoo
Staff Pick: The shampoo

The DL: This shampoo looks like a great save for those seemingly endless travel delays around the holidays. You never know when you might need to crash in an airport chair, sans shower facilities, during long layovers or flight cancellations. Speaking of winter getaways, we’ve got the scoop on five fabulous veg-friendly ski chalets around the world for some seasonal fun. Staying stateside? Check out the beautiful Catskill Mountains in Upstate NY for a change of pace—think adorable rescued animals, scrumptious veg food, and kitschy hotels. With so much to do, there’s no reason to let the cold weather keep you in hibernation this winter.

Beauty Products

The Delivery: Lotion, bath salt, and nail polish from SpaRitual
Staff Pick: Organic moisturizing lotion made with Chinese jasmine

The DL: Cold weather tends to cause many people to suffer from dry skin, but using lotion like this will help you brave the outdoors and enjoy the serenity blanketing most of the country, especially the northeast, this time of year. In fact, now is the absolute perfect time to visit Upstate NY—the peaks of the Catskill Mountains are likely white with snow, rescued animals await visitors in their cozy sanctuary barns, and the delicious vegan food will surely warm you inside and out. Check out this handy guide for all of the perfect places to go in Saugerties and Woodstock. If you can’t get away for a weekend retreat, stay inside and work on your favorite cookie recipe for the VegNews Holiday Cookie Contest, instead—the top prize is a KitchenAid mixer!

Earl Grey and Emergen-C

The Delivery: Emergen-C vitamin drink mix and Bigelow Earl Grey Tea, courtesy of Managing Editor Elizabeth Castoria
Staff Pick: Emergen-C

The DL: Sayonara, Indian Summer, and not-so-welcome salutations to you, rainy season. Yes, winter is steadily making its way into San Francisco, as temperatures seem to be dropping a few degrees each day and clouds have turned our once blue sky a dismal grey. But we’re prepared to bear the cold, damp atmosphere with beloved Earl Grey tea and a boost of vitamin-C with Emergen-C. If we still can’t warm up, we’ll probably cook up some Sambar Lentil Stew, order some spicy hot cocoa mix with homemade marshmallows from Etsy, and daydream about tropical vacations (Mexico, anyone?). If you need us, you can probably find us hibernating under our desks.
