The Healthy Voyager book and Pom Wonderful

The Delivery: The Healthy Voyager’s Global Kitchen by Carolyn Scott-Hamilton and Pom Wonderful’s “Pom Poms” fresh arils
Staff Pick: The Healthy Voyager’s Global Kitchen

The DL: We were so excited to see the forthcoming book by jet-setter Carolyn Scott-Hamilton. This woman is constantly on the go, but somehow still manages to keep her kitchen stocked with the best vegan foods. Check out what’s in her fridge on the very last page of the November+December issue of VegNews. Speaking of the best vegan stuff, Sticky Fingers bakery in DC sent us an amazing array of treats last week. If you want to have a similar box of goodness delivered right to your door, enter our Sticky Fingers giveaway! All you have to do is tell us what your favorite vegan holiday cookie is. The winner will be chosen at random on Monday, November 14. Best of luck!

A Plant-Based Book

The Date: Friday, July 29
The Delivery: The new issue of Entertainment Weekly and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition by Julieanna Hever
Staff Pick: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition

The DL: Some of us here at the VNHQ are big Hunger Games fans, but we're even bigger Julieanna Hever fans (she's a VN columnist, after all!). We've been hearing about this new book for months and can't wait to dive in. Will reading it play into our weekend plans? There's a high probability. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend as well. Keep cool and we'll see you Monday!

Books and Vegan Beauty Products

The Date: Tuesday, January 11
The Delivery: The Safe Food Handbook by Heli Perrett, PhD, and body scrubs, oil, and gel from Glow Naturals
Staff Pick: The Lavender Cookies & Cream Body Scrub

The DL: We're pretty avid readers here at the VNHQ (as you might have noticed from our Book Club!), but there's something that we love even more than reading: the ingenious combination of cookies and body scrub! We look forward to trying this offer from Glow Naturals, and hope that upon opening the jar, lavendar-flavored sugar cookies magically appear.

The Delivery: Appetite for Reduction by Isa Chandra Moskowitz
Staff Pick: The only item!

The DL: Happy 2011, everyone! We're thrilled to be back at work here at the VNHQ, and hope that you all had wonderful holidays. While we weren't overwhelmed with the volume of today's goods, it's hard to argue with the quality. Yes, we've received this book before, and yes, we're grateful to see it again. Maybe some of us are thinking about reducing ourselves a bit after teh holiday indulgences. Maybe this book comes at the perfect time. Just saying! Crazy Sexy Diet, The Final Version!

The Date: Monday, November 15
The Delivery: The final version of Crazy Sexy Diet
Staff Pick: Kris Carr's finished Crazy Sexy Diet has come in and we couldn't be more excited!

The DL: We've been anticipating the next addition to the Crazy Sexy family, following Kris Carr's bestselling Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips and Crazy Sexy Cancer Survivor, and it's finally here: Crazy Sexy Diet: Eat Your Veggies, Ignite Your Spark, and Live Like You Mean It!. While we got the galley form back in October, now that we have the colorful, hard-covered, chock-full-of-information final version, we can't wait to soak it all in! Are you a Crazy Sexy Carr fan? Look for her in the upcoming January+February issue (spoiler alert!).

Books and Yogurt

The Date: Wednesday, October 27
The Delivery: Non-dairy yogurts from Nogürt and a book.
Staff Pick: Other Nations: Animals in Modern Literature edited by Tom Regan & Andrew Linzey

The DL: Though it was tough to choose between vegan soy-free yogurts and a scintillating read, our love for literature solidified this staff pick. Other Nations is a compilation of stories and excerpts by authors such as Hemingway, Orwell, and Walker, organized by two academics in sections that show human beings' changing relationship with animalsas companions, food, entertainment, and science. The compilation sounds very thought-provoking, which is just what the world needs this World Go Vegan week.

Street Smart Vegan

The Date: Friday, October 22
The Delivery: A book
Staff Pick: Street Smart Vegan by Jay Wesley Anderson

The DL: Street Smart Vegan appears to be a slim, easy-to-digest, savvy guide to veganism, including advice concerning diet, social, nutrition, companion animal, travel, and more, which sounds like a great little book for both aspiring and established vegans. And since it just so happens that next week is Emily Deschanel-endorsed Go Vegan Week, this book's arrival at VNHQ is aptly timed. Happy weekend!

Pudding and a Book

The Date: Thursday, October 21
The Delivery: Puddings and a book
Staff Pick: Vegan puddings from Comfy House Foods

The DL: Yesterday we were dying for an afternoon snack, but we at least had Honest Tea to tide us over. Today, however, we are the happy recipients of snack-tastic new vegan puddings from Comfy House Foods. With varieties such as Quinoa & Blueberry and Banana & Coconut, we don't see why these treats can't be served for breakfast, snack-time, or afternoon dessert-time (which, by the way, is one of the most important meals of the day). Comfy House recommend eating these puddings warmed, which sounds like the perfect antidote to a brisk San Francisco fall day, much like today's lunch on Café VegNews.

Crazy Sexy Diet

The Date: Thursday, October 14
Staff Pick: Crazy Sexy Diet

The DL: Continuing our week of books-we've-been-eagerly-anticipating comes Kris Carr's follow up to her first book Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips, wherein she inspired cancer sufferers and their loved ones all over the world with her refusal to let her cancerous diagnosis stop her from continuing to try to heal in many ways; among them with a plant-based diet, yoga, meditation, and an ultra-positive, playful attitude. Crazy Sexy Diet, which will be published in January, features Carr and her trademark sass, this time focussing completely on a healing veg diet, and including contributors such as Dr. Neal Barnard and Skinny Bitch's Rory Freedman. We expect to, once again, be crazy-sexy-inspired!

We Want Candy

The Date: Wednesday, September 15
The Delivery: A non-vegan book and Goody Good Stuff candy
Staff Pick: Goody Good Stuff Cola Breeze candies

The DL: After bemoaning the lack of sweet treats being delivered to VNHQ over the past few days, someone loves us! The adorably-named Goody Good Stuff company makes vegan versions of childhood penny candies, like our personal favorites, cola bottle gummies. Only one thing would make this snack even better, and that is Original Chex Mix, which Savvy Abby has informed us is vegan. Now if you'll excuse us, we'll get back to that sweet and savory afternoon snacking.

Vega and a Book

The Date: Thursday, September 9
The Delivery: A book and samples of Vega Sport
Staff Pick: Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide to Optimal Performance in Sports and Life by Brendan Brazier

The DL: Vegan Brendan Brazier looking fit on the cover of the new edition of Thrive was just the motivation we needed to tackle our cycling commute home to work off our burrito lunches. This edition features a forward by Hugh Jackman, who states that by the time we're reading his words, he might well be vegan. Hugh, call us if you need us!
